DePaula Monastrell
This Monastrell (Mourvèdre) DePaula is made by Juan Antonio Ponce, it is rich and full bodied despite an ABV of 12.3%, a rarity for the grape. It has a fresh Mediterranean nose of aromatic herbs and fine, elegant fruit, with a sensation of more ripeness than what the alcohol level points at. Monastrell doesn't ripen if without extensive work in the vineyard and Juan Antonio has been have been improving the viticulture since they bought the vineyard with marked improvements each year. This is a fresher and more floral Monastrell, with a balsamic twist, a juicy palate and deep flavours giving backbone and support to the wine. It is fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in 4,500-liter oak vats, where it matured for seven months. This is now certified organic. 17,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2023.
