Elvio Cogno Barolo 'Ravera' 2015
The Elvio Cogno Winery was formed in the footsteps of master wine maker Elvio and continues to produce wines that respect the history of the family today. They maintain, unaltered, traditions and styles that express the flavour and grape varieties of the Langhe.
Barolo Ravera is produced with grapes from the historical cru in Novello with southern exposure, a guarantee of fine aromas, sapid flavour and great complexity. The mainly calcareous soil of this old vineyard adds elegance and structure to the wine, making it ideal for ageing. Only a few great wines possess its capacity to develop successfully in the course of time. Austere and severe in its early years, Barolo Ravera loses none of its typicality with the passing of the years; on the contrary, it improves all the time. Careful selection in the vineyard and relatively long fermentation help to heighten the grapes characteristics, which express themselves to the full after ageing in the bottle. A unique testimonial for a prestigious terroir, a wine that takes the typicality of Langhe hills to the top in terms of quality.
"The 2015 Barolo Ravera shows a deep concentration and dark fruit intensity. This warm-vintage Barolo opens with a ripe and soft bouquet that brings out some nice cherry notes with creamy black fruit at the back. The finish is soft and luscious. There is so much fruity succulence here that the wine should stand up to a gamey dish of liver pâté or pasta with wild boar. " Drink 2021 - 2038
