Oestricher Riesling “Quarzit” – A Deeply Rooted Expression of Terroir
From the hands of Peter Jakob Kühn, Quarzit is a Riesling shaped by the unique soils of Oestrich’s Doosberg, Klosterberg, and Lenchen vineyards. This wine is a vivid reflection of its origin—layered, mineral-driven, and full of quiet intensity.
The vineyards sit atop deep, chalky loess interwoven with terrace sediments and marine sands from the Alzey Formation. Grey quartzite and clay marl run through the subsoil, creating a rich matrix that offers excellent mineral availability and water retention. Even in the heat of summer, the vines thrive with steady moisture, allowing for balanced, expressive fruit.
